2019 Christmas Bedroom

Its become a tradition over the last several years to decorate my bedroom for Christmas after I get the main areas of the house done. And although I normally am pretty minimalist in most of my decorating and a Christmas tree in the master bedroom may seem a little over the top, theres just something about snuggling up in bed with my babies, looking at the glowing Christmas lights that just makes my heart happy. Its such a cozy space to begin with, so adding a little bit of garland, some pretty things on the mantel, and a tree at the foot of my bed just gives this room such a magical feeling. It makes me feel like a kid again, which is something truly special this time of year.

This year the very first decorating I did for Christmas was the mantel in my bedroom with these little scrap wood Christmas trees I made. You can find that tutorial here! They are so simple and inexpensive to make, and you can paint or stain them any color to match your decor, which I love. I ended up using two of Minwaxs water based stains in white wash pickling and driftwood, and the driftwood color ended up being this really soft, pretty minty sage green that was perfect for Christmas. I loved the color so much that I carried it over to the tree and used mint green ornaments, which is definitely a first for me!

Part of what I love about decorating with neutrals is how easy it is to incorporate new colors and change things up from year to year. I already had plenty of white and silver ornaments, so the mint color ones fit right in, and I didnt have to buy everything new just to have a completely different look this year. Most years I actually use all the exact same ornaments, garlands, and ribbons, and just put them in different combinations between the couple trees I put up throughout the house! Last year it was four, including the little one in the boys playroom for all their special ornaments, but this year I scaled back to only three.

I always change out the decor on this wall by my bed, and this year I went with a set of hooks to hang stockings and some pretty bells on a rope. In past years Ive had some Christmas art on canvas fabric displayed, my favorite rusty PEACE letters, or just a simple wreath with a ribbon bow.

The majority of my Christmas decor are things I already own, but two new pieces I did buy this year were a pair pillows and a big, cozy knit throw, both with fun pom poms on the edges. Adding warm, cozy elements to a space is a great way to decorate for the holidays that a) is stylish and sophisticated and b) can be left out all winter long, even after Santa comes and goes.
