Mother’s Day is definitely going to look different than what I had originally planned for this year. Anel had told me to book a massage and then go out with girlfriends for brunch. Instead, I’ll probably take a hot bubble bath and walk around the block with a Podcast for my “me” time. But at this point, that sounds pretty great!

In lieu of a gift this year, I asked Anel to donate money in Amalia’s name to New Reach, a local organization that works with homeless families to get them into homes and on their feet. It’s an organization that needs as many resources as they can get right now.

I encourage you to do the same for a mom in your life. Even if it’s only $10 or $20, it’s a beautiful gesture and all the small amounts really do add up.

In addition to a donation, it’s nice to get a little something to feel appreciated as a mom. And this year, moms deserve appreciation more than ever, am I right? You can appreciate your wife, sister, mother, friend, grandmother, or any mother in your life while also supporting a small business.

Here are a few of my favorite small businesses to support this Mother’s Day… and every day:

Dudley Stephens: You probably know by now that one of my good friends is the co-founder of Dudley Stephens, a fleece company created by two sisters here in Connecticut. Their fleece is made from recycled plastic bottles and right now they’re donating 10% of sales to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. I live in my Cobble Hill (longer) and Park Slope (shorter) fleece turtlenecks. All of their outerwear is 20% off right now.

ASHA: I wear my ASHA zodiac pendant almost every day and now it’s 25% off (as is everything sitewide!). The ASHA studio is right next to Anel’s gym so I constantly walk by it and lust after everything in the shop. This mama charm would make a beautiful mother’s day gift.

ChappyWrap: Our family friends (a mother-daughter team) started this blanket company that makes the softest, best blankets in the entire world… Although I might be biased. While a lot of their product is on backorder due to COVID-related delays, a lot of it will be back in stock by early next week so add your name to the waitlist to get them in time for mother’s day. A few blankets that you can order today are this pretty neutral one and this one with a hydrangea pattern. They make great gifts that last for years!

Hat Attack: This Connecticut-based business has been family-run for decades. Cooper, the daughter of the founders, is a friend of mine. Our fun fact is that we were in hospital rooms next to each other when our daughters were born on the same day! You’ve probably seen their hats and bags on Shopbop and Revolve but shop their site directly for 20% off sitewide with code HOPE20. A portion of proceeds goes to Feeding America from all purchases made using this code. I love this tie-dye beach throw, this straw clutch, and their pretty Turkish towels.

Emily Ley: I’ve been using Emily’s Simplified Planner for years and only recently learned that she has a ton of other great office and organizing products like this weekly magnetic fridge planner (I also love the monthly version), a grocery list pad divided by section (I’ve been bringing paper lists instead of my phone lately), mom notes, and a cute little to-do list. A bundle of these would make a great gift! For any new moms, her baby book is beautiful and it’s the one we have for Amalia.

Lake Pajamas: I love their super soft PJs. They make an amazing gift! The shorts sets are great for summer and I like the pant/tee combo too. I lived in their maternity nightgowns when I was pregnant and postpartum with Amalia.

Society Social: I’ve known Roxy since our city days, and while she’s most famous for her colorful furniture, she sells a lot of great gifts on her site. Like this $8 mini planter (perfect for a desk or nightstand), a cheeky market tote, and the cane tumblers I’ve been eyeing myself.
